World Hand Hygiene Day - Sunday 5th May 2024

Sunday 5th May 2024 is World Hand Hygiene Day and with Covid-19 showing just how easily infections can be spread through poor hand hygiene, the Infection Prevention and Control Group of Wirral Community Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust have delevoped online resources to raise awareness and strengthen knowledge about the importance of good hand hygiene within health and care.
Below are their '5 Moments for Hand Hygiene' quick tips:
The 5 Moments for Hand Hygiene are the key moments when hand decontamination should be performed in health care, these are:
- • before touching a resident/patient/
- • before clean/aseptic procedures;
- • after body fluid exposure/risk;
- • after touching a resident/patient/; and
- • after touching resident/patient/ surroundings
IPC education is fundamental in the delivery of safe care. Safe hand hygiene practice protects everyone and prevents the transmission of microorganisms and healthcare associated infections.
